IDAS Does It Better
IDAS offers spectrum efficiency ahead of the curve set by the FCC mandate for narrow banding. In addition to that, the product concept and design details are so thoughtful, IDAS is by far the best solution available.
Kenwood joined with Icom and a consortium of manufacturers to deliver to the market a technology platform that gives radio users the flexibility and future that changes the conversation in land mobile radio.
The NXDN consortium offers a non proprietary technology so consumers have a choice and are not locked into one standard or one vendor, as opposed to other narrowband digital solutions on the market. With NXDN products, a decision to buy a radio does not lock you into a long term relationship with the radio company, which, most importantly, gives you the opportunity to have manufacturers compete for your business – even on add-on or replacement radios.
NXDN is a true 6.25 kHz solution that delivers one voice path on one 6.25 kHz channel. Without a doubt, this is better than two voice paths on one 12.5 kHz channels. Why? Well, if you have a non-NXDN solution:
- What if you need only one channel? (You buy an unnecessary extra channel.)
- What if your repeater dies? (You lose both channels.)
- What if your repeater dies? (Radios can talk in digital mode with "talk around.")
- What if I'm in an area of congested RF spectrum? (You have to find a full 12.5 kHz slice of spectrum and can't fit into spectrum gaps created by the current geographic isolation conditions.)
