D-Star on ISS Proposal:

Hi all:

I have been trying for a few years to generate interest in getting some D-Start hardware on the International Space Station.
The D-Star network has mature enough to be able to provide a significant benefit to the ISS crew.

The ability to be able to make Person to Person calls or Person to Repeater, etc will really expand the usefulness of an Amateur radio station on ISS.  The ISS crew will be able to access a public or dedicated repeater from orbit and then have access to the whole Digital network.  The ISS crews will have a better selection of orbits available to Phone Home.

Next week I am going to Moscow to submit a few MarexMG project proposals to replace the existing 4.5+ year old system with a whole new system centered on the Icom-ID800.

Check out some of the draft proposal memos  on the MarexMG.org web page.

While in Moscow (network permitting) I will try to make some DVDongle calls back to the states.

With your support we can upgrade ISS and increase the interest in Amateur Radio Digital satellite activity.

Comments and suggestions welcome,  ka1rrw@yahoo.com

Why not send up an ID-1 with DStar TV (http://www.dstartv.com) running on a laptop. They could stream video from the ISS using a small webcam.

Just a thought!

It's my understanding that Doppler Shift would be a significant problem when trying to use D-STAR form space.

How do you plan to compensate for Doppler Shift?
