Icom Pumps up the Power with Mobile Upgrade Kit
Bellevue, WA – Icom America is pleased to announce a High Power Upgrade Kit (HPUK)
that converts its high end,
50W VHF mobiles to 110W, which meets the need in the Government and Utilities
market for more reliable communications under adverse conditions in the field.
“This technology enables better performance when communicating with high power
repeaters and base stations from a great distance,” said Chris Lougee, Vice
President of Icom America. “Higher power means improved penetration in areas of
foliage, buildings and other obstacles that can disrupt a weaker signal.”
The HPUK upgrade kit is available for the F1721/2721 family of Analog/P25 mobiles.
“This new capability will help radio dealers compete for new contracts, because many bids
for public safety, public service and utilities call for 100W+ mobiles,” Lougee
said.
These radio kits have remote mount capability for trunk or behind the seat
installation. Three cables, which can be ordered separately, are available to
meet specific applications.
IA Engineering Best Practices requires the high
power upgrade kit to ship assembled with the radio, and does not permit sale as
an accessory only. Icom offers a two-year warranty on the kits, which also come
fully tested and ready for installation. Availability on the HPUK is six to
eight weeks from receipt of order.
HPUK includes:
- 1 each of power cable assembly – fused (15’)
- 1 each of jumper cable assembly
- 1 each of thermostat assembly kit
It is a heavy duty design with excellent TX specs, and includes
dual cooling fans for maximum air flow.
