New Icom M36 with Clear Audio Boost
…and, of course, it floats!
Bellevue, WA (October 27, 2008)
Back in late 2006, Icom America introduced the
M34: the world’s first floating handheld marine radio. It’s become Icom’s
best-selling marine handheld radio, ever. Time marches on, and technology
continues to get better and better. Now Icom is proud to launch the M36. Not a
M34 replacement, the M36 is the next best step in Icom’s lineup of military
rugged marine handhelds. And the M36 comes with a great new feature that boaters
will love – Clear Audio Boost.
What is Clear Audio Boost? Imagine a radio that’s smart enough to adjust its own
volume level to account for the surrounding noise level. The M36 does just that,
it measures the ambient sound pressure level so that you will not miss
communications during a sudden burst of noise. It’s very common to the
auto-adjusting volume level feature found on radios in today’s new cars, but the
M36 automatically adjusts the TRANSMIT level as well! Your conversation is sent
and received as clearly as possible no matter how noisy the background is. For
manual override, a “LOUD” button can be activated with just one push, giving you
immediate full volume level. And the M36 has a real noise canceling microphone
built in, as well.
“This is a military-rugged radio, just like all other Icom marine VHF radios”,
says Rick Waedekin, National Sales Manager of Icom America’s Marine Division.
“The M36 holds all the usual great features every Icom radio is known for, and
we expect other manufacturers to follow Icom’s lead and eventually develop their
own Clear Audio Boost feature. Once again, Icom not only stays ahead of the
curve, it determines the curve!”
The M36 uses a powerful yet lightweight Li-Ion battery, A boater can expect a
full 8 hours of typical use on a single charge. (5% transmit/ 5% receive/ 90%
standby.) Transmit power is a whopping 6 watts – that’s a full watt higher than
the M34 and most other handheld marine VHF radios. To extend operating time the
power level can be dropped down to 1 watt when needed.
“The M36 is an affordably priced radio that looks, feels, and performs like a
high-priced radio,” says Waedekin.
The M36 comes complete with the Li-ion battery pack, charger, and AC adapter.
Other accessories are available including a floating waterproof speaker
microphone (HM-165), rapid charger, AAA alkaline battery tray, and more. See
your authorized Icom dealer for details.
The common retail price of the M36, which is still pending FCC approval and is
therefore not yet available for sale, is expected to be approximately $180.00. A
three-year waterproof warranty is included.
