New Icom A14S Ground Crew Radio is Priced Right and Built Military Rugged

IC-A14S

Bellevue, WA - Icom America is proud to introduce the A14S, a Lithium Ion (Li-ion) powered air band transceiver with weather RX.

“This is the perfect ground-tower radio for a working crew”, says Rick Waedekin, National Sales Manager for Icom America. “The A14S is compact and lightweight so it can be carried all day without fatigue. It has great audio output to cut through tarmac, shop or other noise. And it’s built really, really rugged. It’s rain-resistant, too”.

5 Full watts of transmit power are built-in, enough to cover the largest of airports and “wiggle” signals through and around thick walls and metal hangars.

Icom’s “V Speed” audio is built-in. Get 700 mW of crisp, clear audio with a built-in BTL amplifier to make sure communications get heard.

The LCD screen with programmable channel names lets workers quickly and visually ID who they’re talking with. 100 Memory channels and 8 alphanumeric LCD characters per channel allow for plenty of customized settings. Certain A14S settings and features may be PC programmed (optional) and the settings locked for added security. A low battery indication and beep alert are also standard features.

The A14S comes with a HUGE Lithium-Ion battery pack (2000mAh) for more than 18 hours of operation. Li-ion batteries offer several important advantages over other battery types. One of the most important advantages is easy charging. The Li-ion battery does not suffer from “memory” issues that can plague other battery technologies; with Li-ion, you can top-up a partially charged battery without concern that it may adversely affect the battery.

Another important advantage of Li-ion is the superior weight-performance ratio. More power is housed in a smaller, lighter package. Wearing the lightweight A14S on a belt will not fatigue the ground staff.

A desktop battery charger is optional. The charger, part number BC-179, securely holds and charges the radio, even in bumpy conditions. A “charge ready” light indicates when the battery is ready to go. The charger may be powered by an optional cigarette lighter cable, CP-22. A “AA” backup battery case, part number BP-261, is also optional.

The A14S meets strict military specifications (MIL STD MIL-810C/D/E/F) for ruggedness. The water resistant construction, equivalent to IPX4, provides reliable operation in wet conditions.

Approximate “street price” of the A14S is $210. Accessory pricing is still TBD. Icom America's headquarters are in Bellevue, Washington. www.icomamerica.com
