POSITION TITLE:   Network/Systems Administrator
REPORTS TO:   IT Manager


We are looking for a Network Administrator to support company operations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of each department by ensuring skilled technical oversight of the local area network. Responsible for the design, installation, setup, and monitoring/security of the LAN to ensure performance meets company and user requirements.


  • Install, configure, and maintain personal computers, Windows networks, file servers, ethernet networks, network cabling, and other related equipment, devices, and systems; adds or upgrades and configures modems, disk drives, data acquisition boards, CD ROM units, printers, and related equipment.
  • Interfaces with other departments, vendors and consultants to indentify requirements and resolve problems
  • Administer network workstations, utilizing one or more TCP/IP or non-TCP/IP networking protocols.
  • Provide training or individual assistance to users
  • Oversees backup and security procedures
  • Ensure the secure operation of the in-house computer systems, servers, and network connections. Check server and firewall logs, scrutinize network traffic, establish and update virus scans, and troubleshooting. Resolve security breaches and vulnerability issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and conduct audits where required.
  • Ensure the stable operation of external Internet applications and services including their corresponding hardware and software. Provide comprehensive enterprise-wide security protocols to ensure data and system security. Perform all preventative maintenance, backups and recovery tasks as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Networking: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, routing, DHCP, OSPF, LACP, VLAN, STP, QoS, HP and Cisco devices, VPN tunnels
  • Hardware: HP Proliant servers, HP Procurve network switches, HP Aironet Wi-Fi controllers and access points, HP 3PAR and MSA SANs, QLogic fibre fabric, Cisco ASA routers
  • Systems: Microsoft Windows Server, Hyper-V virtualization, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange server, Microsoft SQL server, Microsoft Sharepoint server, System Center (Operations Manager, Data Protection Manager, Virtual Machine Manager)
  • Datacenter operations: backups, software updates, replacing failed hardware, deploying new servers, network wiring, responding to outages outside of normal business hours
  • Security: log analysis, intrusion detection, firewall rules, internal PKI (public key infrastructure), familiarity with key exchange and cipher algorithms


  • Ability to clearly communicate information both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technological software, hardware and concepts.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise initiative in planning, organization, and implementation of daily functions resolving routine to highly complex Information Systems problems.
  • Considerable knowledge of technical software/hardware systems and operations. Ability to read, analyze, update and maintain various software/hardware applications.
  • Knowledge of and extensive skill writing departmental policies and procedures of technical support functions.
  • In-depth knowledge of systems integration and middleware technologies and trends, with an emphasis on XML and Web Service technologies; J.D. Edwards E1 ERP.
  • Skill in accessing, operating, maintaining and repairing various software applications. Ability to operate basic office equipment e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, facsimile machines.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise initiative in daily operations, and resolve basic operational or user problems.


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related education supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years progressively responsible experience related to development, analysis in a professional environment or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
